Creativity and Advertising [Videos]

The advertising industry has been known to employ the best of the best when it comes to creative. If this is true, then why are commercials so awful? Do all jewelry commercial seem the same to you? Does every car commercial include a professional driver on a closed course? These recycled ideas do not help me distinguish one brand from another. However, they do (unintentionally) make the good ones stand out. Here are a few that keep me in my seat during a commercial break.

Chevy True Stories

Disclaimer: This commercial may cause eyes to water. Instead of showing me a car that is gliding around corners, up mountains, and through ice and rain doing things I could never do, Chevy went with something that is in line with their own values: family tradition. This commercial brought a whole new meaning to the “Chevy Runs Deep” slogan. The best part about this commercial is that it’s a true story! How cool is that?

Dos Equis The Most Interesting Man in The World

I love these commercials. They feel so authentic. I must confess, another reason I love this is because I have seen it change a customers mind about their choice in beer. The day after my dad saw this ad between a Bears game, I opened the fridge to find a 6 pack of Dos Equis where the Miller Light used to be.

Heineken Commercial: The Entrance

Seriously, isn’t this awesome? I love it! It takes the original format for your typical beer commercial (insert alcoholic drink in good looking 20 something year old’s hand for an instant good time) and has fun with it. It’s light, fast, keeps my attention and has The Asteroids Galaxy Tour tearing up a party that I want to be at! Boring beer commercials won’t do anymore for me. Heineken has stepped up the game.

Catvertising

What’s the first thing that you did after watching this video? You Googled John St. didn’t you? I know I did.

What are some of your favorite ads?
